Plaster Casts:
Rendlesham Forest near RAF Woodbridge, Suffolk
Sergeant Jim Penniston created plaster casts of three depressions found in Rendlesham Forest near RAF Woodbridge, Suffolk. Each mark, about 1.5 inches deep and 12 inches wide, formed a triangular pattern, believed to be impressions from the craft’s landing gear. Penniston made the casts to preserve evidence of the object. Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt, deputy base commander, verified the casts’ authenticity through soil samples showing calcium carbonate traces. Only one of the three casts remains, now held by Col. Halt and stored in the original plastic bag with Penniston’s handwritten label (see images). Accompanying photographs show the cast’s top, held by Halt, with a closer view revealing the date and “#2” etched alongside the cast’s bottom. This surviving cast is a critical piece of physical evidence.
